Description
RIDWORM tablets are used to treat intestinal worms, especially threadworms which are the most common type in Australia. Threadworms are very contagious as the worm’s eggs are still infectious outside the body for several weeks. Consequently they are easily passed from person to person. Threadworms are seen most commonly in young children who ingest the worms and become infected through sharing toys, food, books, pencils, etc. However an entire family may be infected by the worms. The most common symptom is severe itching around the anus, particularly at night.
WHAT IS IN RIDWORM TABLETS?
RIDWORM tablets contain the active ingredient mebendazole. Mebendazole belongs to a family of medicines called anthelmintics. Anthelmintics are medicines used in the treatment of worm infections, including threadworms.
HOW DO RIDWORM TABLETS WORK?
Mebendazole works by stopping the worm from absorbing sugar (glucose). This gradually causes loss of energy and death of the worm. Mebendazole does not affect the blood glucose concentrations in humans.
HOW LONG DO RIDWORM TABLETS TAKE TO WORK?
Generally, RIDWORM tablets should eliminate threadworm infections after a single dose.
HOW TO TAKE RIDWORM TABLETS?
Threadworms may be easily passed from one person to another, especially in a household. Therefore all household members should be treated at the same time. This helps to prevent infestation or reinfestation of other household members.
